ASTM A193 B7 vs Grade 8 Fasteners

While Rolled Threads Unlimited commonly works with a wide variety of material types, the backbone of our company has been built on our production of full threaded studs, double end studs, “dogbone” studs and tie rods using 4140 Quenched and Tempered materials in both ASTM A193 B7 and Grade 8/SAE J429/A354 BD properties.

ASTM A193 B7 is a chrome-moly steel with strength similar to Grade 5 properties and is commonly used in high temperature and pressure applications. Common uses for grade 8 bolts are military, heavy manufacturing and other demanding mechanical applications where high stress and strong load bearing pressures are a major factor.

Unlike A193 B7, Grade 8 raw material is typically not available off-the-shelf from distributors. However, at Rolled Threads, we carry a wide variety of sizes of domestic material in stock for quick turnarounds for finished parts. It is a far less costly option than widely available material with similar mechanical properties such as ETD 150.
